Exclusive Sponsored Giveaway: $20 Amazon GC and ebook Grey by Christi J. Whitney with author interview

Gray by Christi J. Whitney
Sebastian Grey thought he was a fairly normal teenager.
He has great friends, decent grades, and even a few hobbies to keep him busy. Not to mention the fact that he lives a pretty sweet existence in the small town of Sixes with his foster brother, tattoo artist Hugo Corsi.
But when the inexplicably irresistible Josephine comes into town with her traveling Circe de Romany, Sebastian realizes his world is nothing at all what he thought. After a brief encounter with Josephine, Sebastian can’t shake a weird, overwhelming urge to protect her—not from high school clicks or teenage drama, but from something far more dangerous.
The more Sebastian resists, the more he’s drawn into a hidden world of Outcast Gypsies, ancient superstitions, and tales of gargoyles. His foster brother appears to have answers, but suddenly, Hugo isn’t talking, and Sebastian decides to figure things out on his own. Shadowy figures pursue him, secrets elude him, and with each passing day, Sebastian discovers he’s changing—transforming into something he doesn’t fully understand. Afraid of losing himself, Sebastian confronts his destiny head on. But is he prepared to accept the consequences of his actions, especially when doing so may change him forever?

"I write novels for the YA and NA markets. I'm a theatre nerd who makes costumes on shoestring budgets, dabbles as an actor and director, and manages to drink lots of coffee. I'm also a total geek who admits to moments of obsessive fan-girling over a variety of fandoms and hobbies. Feel free to check out my blog posts here, follow me in other social media, and learn more about my books. Good to meet you!"

Interview (feel free to do any or all of the questions, including or excluding the lightning round)
--The Twitter version: tell us about your book in 140 characters or less.
Thanks so much for having me! I’m delighted to be here. Okay, so my short description of Grey would be this: A secretive clan of Outcast Gypsies pull 18-year-old Sebastian into a world of secrets, tales of gargoyles, and a destiny he cannot escape.

--How did you get the idea for the story?
The idea came from several places, actually. I adore stories with underdog heroes, and I’m drawn to those characters that are slightly outside of the box, quirky, or just plain different. Beauty and the Beast is my favorite fairy tale. I’m a fan of science fiction and fantasy. And I’m a former high school teacher who had some amazing students. All of those factors sort of converged into Grey.
--Which character would you most/least like to have dinner with?
Probably Sebastian’s brother Hugo and the rest of the tattoo artists who work with him. Dinner would definitely be entertaining, but their manners aren’t the best.
--Do you have any other works in progress? Any teasers or release dates?
Grey is the first installment in the Romany Outcasts Series, so I’m busy working on the second and third books right now. I don’t have a release date for book 2 yet, but I believe it’s sometime next year. I’ve also got a science fiction novel in the beginning stages.
--What are some of your favorite books? Do you still have much time to read?
My “to be read” pile grows every day, unfortunately. I’ve always been a fan of classic literature, but I also read quite a bit of young adult fantasy. I recently finished Wither, the first book in The Chemical Garden Series by Lauren DeStefano, and I really enjoyed it.

--If a fairy godmother told you could be put into the world of your favorite book for 24 hours, which book would you pick and why?
Can I choose a series instead of just one book? If so, then The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. Besides the fact that Narnia is an absolutely amazing place filled with every wonderful supernatural being I can think of, Narnia was also the first fantasy world I fell into on my own as a child, and I loved it.

--Do you need anything to write (music, coffee, etc)? Are there any songs on your playlist- songs that inspired you or that were playing while you wrote?
Coffee is always a must for me, followed by a nice cup of tea. I usually like to mix my music up between soundtracks from film and television and radio music. I’ve had Imagine Dragons in my playlist for a while as inspiration. But my favorites right now are the soundtracks from BBC’s Sherlock, the Sherlock Holmes film franchise, and Doctor Who.

--If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
Definitely teleportation. It’s not only handy, but looks really cool.

--Besides writing, what do you like to do in your free time?
I have a theatre background, and I spend my free time directing community theatre shows. I also act and do voice-overs on occasion. I absolutely adore making costumes for science-fiction/fantasy conventions. I’m a huge geek, and I tend to obsess over my favorite films and television shows. And my family goes to Walt Disney World quite frequently.
--What is one thing you would tell your 15 year old self?
Don’t be afraid to be yourself. I’ve always been a geek, but it wasn’t as cool back then as it is now, especially for girls.
